All you need to know about Krakow……

Krakow, the cultural capital of Poland attracts 1000’s of visitors every year. A charming city rich in historical sights as well as bars, pubs and restaurants is it any wonder that city breaks to Krakow have become increasingly popular?

The most well known districts in Krakow are the Stare Miasto literally translated to Old Town and the Kazimierz (Jewish) district. The heart of the Old Town is the Rynek Glowny, the largest medieval square in Europe, lined by an abundance of bars and restaurants and offering a chance to soak up the unique atmosphere of Krakow.

A wonderful mix of Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque architechture the Old Town is a maze of cobbled streets, home to boutique shops selling everything from clothing, and antiques to local handicrafts.

If it’s sightseeing you’re after, a visit to Wawel Royal Castle and the 14th Century Cathedral inside the castle walls are a must. Once the home of Polish Kings, the castle is now a major tourist attraction showcasing state rooms, magnificent tapestries and the armory.

Since World War II,the Krakow’s former Jewish quarter, the Kazimierz district has undergone major refurbishments to restore its Christian and Jewish heritage and boasts splendid Churches and Synagogues. The area is filled with modern art galleries, vintage shops and quirky bars and cafes open until the small hours!

Krakow has hundreds of cafes, restaurants and bistros scattered throughout the city. Ranging from traditional Polish fayre to worldwide cuisine, on a luxury or a shoestring budget there’s definately something to suit all tastes. Don’t forget to try out the milk bars (bar mleczny), and why not check out the reviews and find the best rated restaurants on trip advisor?

With a vibrant nightlife Krakow has pubs, bars and clubs a plenty. From Loch Camelot an old art gallery come café, cosmopolitan music club Prozak to The Irish Pub (surprisingly a typical Irish bar!). Lots of bars and cafes offer drinks and dancing until the very early hours and lots of afterhours drinking underground in medieval cellars.

Krakow is a great city to visit and with airlines such as Ryanair and Easyjet offering cheap flights and with such a short flight time from the UK, is ideal for a weekend break. So whether you’re looking for sight seeing and culture or for a mad weekend of partying, Krakow is definitely worth a visit!
